Our Story

Rebel With A Cause is a non-profit community of philanthropic artists and creatives within British Columbia who aspire to provide ‘art’ as a form of healing, uniting, and empowering our local communities.

Co-founders Emily Elizabeth and Sam Shakura have combined creative and spiritual forces to bring to life their dharma project ‘Rebel With A Cause’, an organization of compassionate artists, designers, creatives, and avant-garde entrepreneurs that want to make a difference in their community through the healing powers of art.

When we think of art, we think of it in a very holistic way. Painting, fashion and interior design, handcrafted jewelry, meditation, yoga, sculpting, dancing, singing, cooking, etc… the list is endless. Together we are passionate about providing our communities with the same wholeness that we receive daily from the pursuit of our creative passions. We believe in the practice of art as a tool in creating a life infused with a divine sense of self-purpose, positive health, happiness and harmony.

We have teamed up with over seventy local artists and seek to continue to align with creatives who share the same ambitions. Together we plan to grow our organization’s power and influence in providing benevolent community events, workshops, and fundraising to lend a hand to our local communities. No matter what artistic medium one explores – you too can become a ‘Rebel With A Cause’.

Our first year Rebel ‘cause’ is focused on providing several local charitable organizations and shelters with free-to-attend creative workshops in the Summer of 2018, and the opportunity to turn these creative teachings into an avenue of affluence and abundance in our late Summer of 2018 art market. To kick off our first series of workshops, we are thrilled to be working alongside Karis Society, Mamas For Mamas, and of course Third Space Life Charity! In the future, we intend to broaden the horizons of how we can help others, with avenues such as scholarships for art education, ‘art for healing’ summer camps and festivals, and events like markets and art shows to support our professional art culture.”

Emily Elizabeth Fine Jewelry Art

“I have an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for living a life structured by passion. Working with my hands has lifted me up from so many difficult times in my life. I believe as artists we are consumed by passion and playfulness, in time it heals our scars and fuels our livelihood and when it makes us whole we have nowhere else to put our hearts but into the lives of others. An artists true life’s purpose is the rebellion to share their hearts work.”

Emily Elizabeth Sterling graduated from the Vancouver Metal Arts School in 2011, under the teachings of Gerold Mueller, alumni of one of Germany’s finest design schools. As a European trained Jewelry and Object Designer, Emily went on to further her knowledge of the industry while interning with Peter Schmid of the renowned Atelier Zobel in Konstanz, Germany. “This was a dream for me. My time working abroad with Zobel was an alluring immersion into a world of highly innovative design. I absorbed the value to stand out as a progressive and fun-spirited artist in a very traditional trade, to be bold and to give my work soul.”

Having worked in the industry for seven years, Emily has collected hands on experience alongside several master goldsmiths in her hometown of Vancouver, and in Kelowna, BC. Emily spent the last three years of her career in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. It was there that she began to put the bigger pieces and experiences in her life together with her creative work to catapult her career with deeper purpose. “Success as an artist is a lot more than producing quality artwork. It is about intellectual and spiritual wealth within the maker and within each piece. My work is an expression of my heart.”

With a deep calling for quality of time and inspired space to create her one-of-a-kind and handcrafted pieces, Emily’s workshop Emily Elizabeth Fine Jewelry Art is now nestled in the majestic Rocky Mountains of British Columbia. Emily uses precious metals and gemstones to create her talisman pieces. Her designs are rich in technical ability while never failing to make a statement with romantic, sculptural forms and vibrant minerals. “My goal is to design jewelry that creates curiosity and questions about the wearer. I aspire to create art that will emote and express the inner self while leaving an element of mystery lingering behind.” Emily has a style that is undeniably her own, strong in it’s individuality, yet soft in it’s organic form and fine detail. “I find great beauty in the thoughtful symbolism beneath my designs. I am a storyteller, choosing to tell my stories and the stories of others through metals and minerals. These stories are of spirit, love, nature, and the healing powers of art.”

Rock House Style

“Rebels believe the power is in their hands to make a difference in the world. They believe that uniqueness, confidence, and creating beauty in their daily lives can unite, empower, uplift and strengthen their community. Rebels fight adversity and stand up against oppression. They believe in art as a tool for creating wholeness, in ones self, and with each other. Rebels are in constant pursuit of human potential, and of igniting people’s purpose, connection and passion.”

Trained at the New York School of Interior Design, the University of British Columbia, and Blanche Macdonald, Sam is the owner of the Okanagan-based interior, fashion and life design firm, Rock House Style. With degrees in English Literature/Philosophy, Interior Design and Make Up Artistry/Fashion Styling, her versatility and drive is, in a word, impressive.

Rock House Style is renowned for its broad range of styles, global visionary points-of-view, and luxuriously sophisticated and comfortable interiors. Sam approaches each unique space with the intent to make it beautiful and give it soul, a true maestro of magical design. Like a modern alchemist, Sam conjures sublime, conversation-starting rooms that balance extravagance and approachability, while practicing a holistic approach of design which honors our spirituality and personal harmony.

Among other various awards, Sam is the recipient of Canada’s prestigious $70,000 National TD Scholarship for Global Leadership & Academics and the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce’s “Rising Star Business of the Year”. Today, Sam co-hosts At Home, a celebrated inspirational lifestyle radio talk show airing weekly across Canada on the Corus network and is currently writing a book exploring themes of soul spaces and how art can connect us to our higher selves. Sam’s product line ‘Rock House’ carries custom-designed jewelry, fashion, art and home décor for the ultimate style-seeker.

Raised with a deeply engrained sense of corporate and personal social responsibility, Sam’s philanthropic work includes being on the board of the gala events and celebrity lockup at the SPCA, organizing several fundraising events for numerous animal rescues such as TRACS and VSPR, donating and guest-speaking at several non-profit charitable and community events, and mentoring young aspiring interior design, art and business students. A range of sensationally distinguished interiors and sybaritic rock n’ roll fashions testify to the international reputation of Canadian-based designer, artist and lifestylist maven, Sam Shakura.
